Glympse announces new Tap-n-Track features and calendar integration for Android, hits two million Android downloads
App downloads grow 100% on the platform in just three months
REDMOND, WASH. — February 23, 2012 — Glympse™, the company behind the pioneering location sharing app of the same name, today announced two new features for Android™ users: the quick and easy “Tap-n-Track” and automatic Calendar Integration. Additionally, Glympse announced that the popular app has surpassed 2 million Android downloads—an impressive milestone, having passed 1 million Android downloads just 3 months ago.
Glympse will showcase the new features at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (Feb. 27 – March 1) as part of Google™’s Android pavilion.
“We first launched Glympse on the Android platform, so we’re incredibly excited to be working with the Android team to launch our newest features and to also announce such a substantial and exciting milestone for the platform,” said Bryan Trussel, co-founder and CEO of Glympse, Inc.
“Tap-n-Track,” a new feature launching exclusively for Glympse on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), is the fastest way yet to exchange a Glympse with another Android user. “Tap-n-Track” uses Android Beam™ to establish an instant connection between two Glympse users who wish to share their location with each other. With “Tap-n-Track,” users need only touch their devices together to initiate an instant Glympse that lets them see one another’s location for the time period they choose.
“Tap-n-Track” extends the social nature of the Glympse service. It’s great for friends, families or business associates who want to coordinate their location during the course of a busy day.
Also announced for MWC is a highly-requested feature that integrates Glympse with a user’s calendar. Now users can send a Glympse automatically based on their calendar appointments. Glympse automatically imports recipients, time frame, and destination, making it easy for people to know which meeting attendees are on the way and their ETA for appointments.
Live Demos of the “Tap-n-Track” and the Calendar Integration features will be run in the Android Booth (Hall 8, AC25) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from Monday, Feb 27th to Thursday, March 1st.
Glympse is the easiest way to safely share location with others in real-time. With just a few taps, smart phone users on iPhone™, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone™ can send a Glympse to anyone via email, SMS, Facebook, or Twitter. Glympse has proven to be a powerful tool for many uses—alerting colleagues when running late for a meeting, finding friends for after work get togethers or just keeping tabs with the family.
Glympse’s advanced technology gives users complete control over WHO can view their location, WHEN they can view it, and for HOW LONG. Sending a Glympse takes only seconds, and the receiver doesn’t require any special software; they only need web access to view the sender’s ongoing location. Glympse users can simply send a one-time Glympse, or set a timer to specify how long they want their ongoing location to be visible.
